Why CBS Might Be Doing Something Good with a New Star Trek Series by Marcus Blake

First, I want to say that I think there should always be Star Trek on TV and I am excited that we are getting a new series after eleven years.  It’s about time because there are still so many stories to tell in the Star Trek Universe with a new captains and a new crew for the Enterprise…sorry next generation fans…it’s going to happen, but purists weren’t that excited in 1987 when the TNG premiered and look how that turned out… fantastic right!

Now. I wasn’t crazy with what CBS was doing at first and putting this only on their Streaming services…the heart of Star Trek belongs on TV… on channels that everybody can get no matter what their cable package is. But then again we are nerds and it won’t stop us from finding a way to watch it for free… I guess one fan can buy an episode and then have a watching party so everybody else can watch it for free, something to think about CBS with your money grabbing whore like policies. Yes, I went there!

However to make this series good, it really comes down to the team developing it from the writers to producers and then eventual cast! And as much I am worried about how bad this can be, little by little CBS is doing the right thing and putting the right team behind it.  This was just announced…

CBS‘ new Star Trek series is making sure that history never forgets the name Roddenberry. Roddenberry Entertainment President Rod Roddenberry, son of the late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, and COO Trevor Roth, have joined the new Star Trek television series as executive producers alongside Alex Kurtzman, Heather Kadin and Bryan Fuller.

“Gene Roddenberry, the Great Bird of the Galaxy, left a finely feathered nest for all who love ‘Star Trek’ to enjoy,” says Fuller, “And it is only fitting that Rod Roddenberry and Roddenberry Entertainment join our new Trek adventure to ensure that his father’s legacy of hope for the future and infinite diversity in infinite combinations runs through our tales as Gene Roddenberry intended.”

“Moral dilemmas, human issues, complex characters and a genuine sense of optimism: These are the cornerstones of ‘Star Trek’ and are what have made it such an influential and beloved franchise for the last 50 years,” says Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry. “While I will always be humbled by its legacy and the legions of fans who are its guardians, it’s a genuine honor to be joining a team

of imaginative and incredibly capable individuals whose endeavor it is to uphold the tenets of Star Trek’s legacy while bringing it to audiences in a new era and on a contemporary platform.”

The new series will launch with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network in early 2017. The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription Video on demand and live streaming service. The new Star Trek series marks the first original series developed for CBS All Access.

I still don’t know about how good this new series will be, but bringing Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth into the mix is a good thing.  You need a team that knows Star Trek develop a good series and the son of Gene Roddenberry is about as good as you can get.  Now, I am still a little skeptical about the CBS doing a Star Trek Series, but little by little they are getting me excited especially with news like this.  And for now…that’s all I have to say.
