THE TICK: AMAZON ORDERS PILOT; ORIGINAL CAST NOT RETURNING (Ign.com)

Amazon is finally moving ahead with its revival of The Tick.

Deadline reports that Amazon has ordered a pilot for Ben Edlund’s comic book character, with Edlund aboard to write and produce.

It’s still unclear who will fill the title character’s shoes. Interestingly, Patrick Warburton, a longtime campaigner of the revival and The Tick in the original Fox show, will not return. This may be due to his commitments on NBC’s Crowded; he is instead “expected” to serve as executive producer. Vinyl’s Griffin Newman has been cast as The Tick’s sidekick Arthur Everest, while The Following’s Valorie Curry will play Arthur’s sister Dot.

Here’s Deadline’s outline of the plot:

“In the new incarnation, the blue suit-wearing Tick is recovering from a memory loss. He ends up re-teaming with Arthur to fight evil. Newman’s Arthur, played in the Fox series by David Burke, had been labeled as a schizophrenic because of his statements that evil plans to rule the city, and no one believes him until he runs into Tick. Curry’s Dot Everest is a nurse who loves her brother Arthur to death and worries about him.”

The original live-action Tick series aired in 2001 with only 9 episodes, but is now considered something of a cult classic.
