Rectify star Clayne Crawford has joined the cast of FOX’s Lethal Weapon television series.

According to Variety, Crawford will star as Martin Riggs—Mel Gibson’s iconic character from the original film series—in the upcoming pilot episode. The actor joins Damon Wayans, Sr., who wasrecently cast as Roger Murtaugh.

The FOX pilot centers around Crawford’s character, a Navy SEAL and Texas cop who, after the tragic passing of his wife and child, moves to Los Angeles in search of a fresh start. It’s at that point that Riggs joins the LAPD and partners with Wayans’ Murtaugh.

Lethal Weapon is being written by Forever’s Matt Miller, with Supernatural’s McG directing the pilot. Both Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz are on board as executive producers.
