Okay, so if you are from my generation, the announcement by the CW to revamp the Charmed series might have elicited a major eye-roll.  I mean, how many old series can we re-do for television these days?  Seems like there are barely any new show ideas out there.  However, I always think its important to give these revamps a chance before declaring my final vote.  For example, the new MacGyver has been a pretty delightful and wholesome surprise, despite its rocky beginning.  And although I will forever miss Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, Shannon Doherty and even Holly Marie Combs–the first two episodes of the new Charmed have been pretty good so far! They are sticking to the same slightly hokey, yet dark and twisty demon hunting and vanquishing that the original Charmed Trio embarked upon.  The story is different in some ways, but with enough similarities that we don’t need a huge backstory, or a complete recreation of a new storyline.  Just a few small tweaks and differences here and there to make it exciting and new, while still keeping original fans and potential new fans intrigued.

The premiere started off with the murder of the sisters wife, as well as the introduction of Harry their white lighter, the revealing of their powers and of course their first demon vanquishing.  The second episode delved deeper into their powers and whether or not they could trust Harry.  We also see them growing in their bond of sisterhood as they embrace their new destiny and try to figure out who murdered their mother and what the underworld wants with their powers.

All of this seems very familiar to original Charmed fans of course, but it is witty and charming enough to keep us interested long enough to see what these new actresses and characters can bring to a much beloved storyline.  Most of the actresses are relatively unknown, although Madeleine Mantock is known for her work in Badlands and The Tomorrow People, and Sarah Jeffrey is known for her role in Disney’s Descendents.

Hopefully it makes it past a First Season!
