Wheel of Time: Season 2 – “The Best Fantasy Show on TV/Streaming!” by Allison Costa

Prime Video recently premiered the 2nd season of “The Wheel of Time” series.  For long-time fans of this incredibly long and intense series, this has been eagerly anticipated.  The book series, started by Robert Jordan and finished by Brandon Sanderson, is one of the most well-known and widely read.  Although the plot line is intense and intricate, so far Prime has done an excellent job in recreating this story for streaming.  Much like one of its contemporaries, “Dune”, which has been adapted for the big screen, this series is much better enjoyed and understood by those who have actually read the books and know the characters.  However, it can still be widely enjoyed by those who are complete novices but simply love action and fantasy.

There are a lot of nuances to this series and the cast line-up is actually quite young, but they are doing a stand-up job in portraying these characters in my opinion.  Although several of the main cast are not those who I would have originally chosen for the roles, they are stepping into them magnificently.

This season gave us a new actor for the character of Mat Cauthon, which was a shock and disappointment at first.  Donal Finn replaced Barney Harris in this role and it has still not been clearly stated anywhere why Harris left the show.  At first I was disappointed in this change but as the season progressed I was pleasantly surprised with Finn’s performance and feel he was a great choice in Cauthon’s character arc.

This series is quickly growing into one of my favorite fantasy representations, and I really hope that it is able to be carried out to finish the entire book series.  This is a difficult and daunting task with how many books there are and how long they are, but would be a wonderful triumph if they are able to keep it going.  The costumes and set designs are simply stunning and a lot of effort has gone into beautiful details to bring this epic world to life.

For any fantasy fans of Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and the like, who are not familiar with The Wheel of Time, it is definitely worth checking out!
