Veronica Mars (Hulu) | Season 4 Review by Allison Costa

Oh Veronica.  How I have missed this sassy, clever and butt-kicking detective in recent years!  When the original series ended on a cliff-hanger I was pretty devastated.  Thankfully due to a lot of fan clamor, they did make a follow-up movie years later that gave us mega-fans a little closer.  But I was thrilled to hear about the series comeback on Hulu.  In Season 4, quite some time has passed.  Veronica still works with her dad but is much older and wiser now.  She and Logan are finally a committed, adult couple, but he travels so frequently that they both very much still have their own separate lives.  Logan has changed snd evolved a lot as well.  He is not the same hot-tempered, punk kid from her youth.  Instead he has matured into a good man who works for Naval intelligence and is still fiercely loyal to Veronica and supportive of all she does.  Their dynamic is still slightly dysfunctional however, as Veronica still has issues from her youth.

I thought they did a great job with this season.  They introduced new characters, while still bringing back characters from the past to show how they are all still connected to Veronica. The plot was intricate and exciting, even if a little over-the-top morbid at times. The witty banter, clever quips and non-stop action and “snarkiness” were definitely present throughout!  There were so many great things about this season, but I don’t want to give all of the twists and turns away!  You just need to watch it for yourself!!

** Stop reading at this point if you don’t want to know how it ends!**

I will say that I was quite disappointed and shocked at the finale.  I am actually still pretty heartbroken over the entire thing.  Veronica finally grows up and accepts Logan’s marriage proposal, and after decades of indecision the two of them get married!!!  So happy right??  The bad guy has been captured, they are headed on their honeymoon when **SPOILER ALERT** a car bomb takes Logan’s life.  I couldn’t believe it.  Logan is such an integral part of the show and Veronica’s life, that I don’t think this was the best decision on the part of the writers.  However, I understand their logic.  I don’t know if there will be a Season 5 or not, but they were trying to show how Veronica is a lone wolf.  How she is always strong despite tragedy.  Surviving the biggest tragedy ever, of losing Logan, is only meant to add to her strength and give her new story plots for the future.  But I still don’t like it.  It could have been handled so differently.  So what awaits the future of our favorite mystery sleuth??

Well, we have no idea.  But hopefully we won’t have to wait another decade to find out!
