Timeless Season 2 Premiere Review By Allison Costa

Season One of “Timeless” was full of colorful characters, mystery, intrigue and lots of plot twists all wrapped up into one historical fiction free for all.  “Timeless” is a fun and carefree show that the audience can get involved in without becoming so emotionally attached that it feels draining (as opposed to other hard-hitting dramas like “This is Us”).  Season One introduced us to the concept of time travel, the group “Rittenhouse”, and our main characters of Wyatt, Rufus and Lucy–the Soldier, the Engineer and the Historian.

However, in the season one finale we were left with many questions as to their fate when Lucy discovers that her mother, whom she reveres and looks up to so much, is actually a part of the evil organization of Rittenhouse which she abhors.  Season Two begins with Wyatt desperately trying to reach Lucy, who the doesn’t know has been abducted by her mother, when a bomb goes off and destroys their entire facility.  The season then fast forwards to ten weeks later, where we see Lucy with her mother, and Wyatt and Rufus in an underground secret bunker trying to fix their time machine.  We hope that Lucy can’t really be colluding with her mother and that it must be a facade, but we can’t be sure.  Then sure enough Lucy heads back in time with her mother in an attempts to thwart Rittenhouse and her mother.  Her mother and accomplice turn on her, but thankfully she is rescued by Wyatt and Rufus–whom she had feared to be dead.  Theirs is a happy reunion, but in a sad and somber moment, Lucy’s mother then chooses Rittenhouse over her own daughter and although Lucy is crushed, she chooses to return with Wyatt and Rufus.

Episode one of the second season gets our team back together and introduces the founder of Rittenhouse, and Lucy’s great-grandfather, to the plot of the series.  Episode two, then goes on to show how Rittenhouse has actually used the time machine to go back in time multiple times and planted sleeper agents at different important times in history.  All for the main purpose of re-writing history as they see fit.  Creating their “ideal” world by changing certain momentous occasions.  Obviously this season will be full of more plot twists and changing alliances, but more than anything the audience just can’t wait to see Wyatt and Lucy’s characters–played by Matt Lanter and Abigail Spencer– actually admit their feelings for each other! The chemistry between these characters is palpable, and being a fan of both of them in their previous  television roles, I am happy to see that they are still finding exciting roles on television.

As evidenced by certain teasers, hopefully their long-awaited kiss should be happening soon!  “Timeless” is not necessarily an award-winning drama, but if you want a fun, entertaining, action-filled sic-fi romp on mainstream cable then it definitely fits the bill.
