This Week on TV: Superheros Reemerge! by Allison Costa

Yay for the CW if only for the reason that they have given us back our Superheroes in prime time!  Let’s talk about “Flash” first even though I am dying to get to “Arrow”!

The “Flash” reemerged this week with the return of Captain Cold and his new sidekick.  Although I don’t see Cold as a super villain yet I love that they have reunited Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell—two actors that played brothers on the show Prison Break—and that we will be seeing more of these guys on future episodes of the Flash and that there is an endgame somewhere. It is still slightly awkward between Barry and Iris, but the character of Eddie is growing on me but I hope they introduce a new love interest for Barry soon, because even though he is improving in his powers, he is still slightly flat as a character for me in his personal life.  I want him to have a little more depth.  I did love that they had him move back in with Joe at the end of the episode though and think that so far their relationship is one of the most compelling aspects of the show outside of the fight scenes and super powers obviously.

“Arrow”—what I personally have been waiting for—had an awesome season premiere even though I found it a little lacking in terms of Stephen Amell—as the character of Oliver was only really seen in flashbacks up until the end of the show.  This episode showed the Arrow team trying to function without Oliver Queen, and even saw Malcolm Merlin apparently coming to mend fences.  Malcolm discovers the sword that seemingly killed Oliver and delivers the news Oliver is dead. Each member of the team deals with the news in their own way, Felicity obviously taking it the hardest.  Oliver has been lost for days but we see him rescued by his former friend and the flashbacks alert us to the fact that his friend owes him a debt for life.  We also get a preview to Laurel’s alternate identity—she has taken over as the Canary, assuming Sarah’s role.  Although I like this new version of Laurel I am not sure how believable it is.  Sarah trained for years with The League of Assasins, and Laurel has only had a few months of training with a boxer I am not sure I believe that she can be all that badass, but I guess for the show it works—we will see how it pans out.  Going to be a killer season–I hope!
