The Rookie Season Premiere & Episode 2: “Nathan Fillion is back!” Review By Allison Costa

I know there are a ton of Nathan Fillion fans out there!  Well known for his work on “Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place”, “Firefly”, and of course “Castle”, many of us are very grateful to see him back on television.  This is definitely a trimmer Fillion than we saw towards the end of his role on “Castle”, and although this is another cop show, it is a much different role than he played in Castle.

This time Fillion plays a middle-aged rookie cop who is looking to make a difference after a life-altering experience he had while being part of a bank robbery.  Although, the deck seems stacked against him as he is much older than the other recruits and furthermore his chief of police does not think he should be in the program at all and is very set against him, Fillion is determined to succeed.  With his first few days of police work being full of challenges including a man being stabbed right in front of him, and finding a young boy who had been murdered.  He definitely has not had an easy transition.  But he is actually very natural at police work.  He has great people skills and isn’t afraid to tackle the hard cases.  He is also romantically entangled with one of his younger co-workers who is also a recruit.

“The Rookie” attempts to tackle a lot of the realities of real police work, while still humanizing the men and women who work within that field.  Fillion once again excels at his role and I am excited for a great season!
