Terminal Kill #1-7 and TPB “Kickstarter” – Back a Great Nerd Project Today!

A terminally ill single mom is recruited by a mysterious agent to assassinate the ruthless leader of a human trafficking ring for the promise of a better future for her son.

For decades conspiracy theorists have believed that the CIA and other covert agencies have recruited terminally ill people with nothing to lose to do their dirty work (i.e. Jack Ruby killing Lee Harvey Oswald, then dying of cancer in prison).  Kendra Volkov is dying and she only has months to live. Her mother has Alzheimer’s, and her son is 10 years old. She’s in a dire and desperate situation with no way to care for her family when she’s gone.

The mysterious “Mr. Griffin” makes her an offer that just about any person in her situation would accept.  Kill Alek Pajari, a Russian mobster running an organ and human trafficking ring.  In return her family will be financially set for life. Kendra knows her options are limited. She can either live out her remaining few months and risk leaving her mother and son with no future, or put her trust in a man she doesn’t even know with all their lives.

A unique aspect of this book will be the soundtrack.  A QR code and a link in the PDF will take the reader to a Spotify and YouTube playlist of the soundtrack.  On each page with a song, there will be a QR code.  Readers will be able to listen to the songs that accompany each scene while they read the book.  Listening to the soundtrack throughout will give the reader a cinematic experience.

My vision for the “Terminal Kill” comic book series and graphic novel was to weave a narrative that transcends the boundaries of a typical action thriller spy story. While the series thrives in that genre, at its heart, it is a story about love, hope, and overcoming adversity.

In creating “Terminal Kill,” I aimed to juxtapose the grim, often dark realities of international espionage and intrigue with a deeper, more universal message. While set in modern day the story evokes a 1980’s Cold War sensibility. The backdrop of espionage serves as a canvas to explore the resilience of the human spirit and the power of hope in the darkest of times. Through thrilling action and suspenseful storytelling, I intended to draw readers into a world where, despite overwhelming odds and the ever-present shadows of conflict, the characters find strength and purpose in their quests.  Love of family, a spouse or even strangers, the hope that keeps them going, and striving for redemption through their struggles as they seek to overcome unconquerable odds stacked against them.

The choice to mirror a 1980s Cold War era story in modern times was deliberate. The Cold War was a time of global tension and uncertainty, where the threat of annihilation loomed large. In this setting, our characters navigate a world of spies and secrets, but their journeys are ultimately personal ones. They confront not only external enemies but also internal conflicts and moral dilemmas. It is through these struggles that the themes of love and hope shine brightest.

Ultimately, “Terminal Kill” is more than just an action-packed spy thriller. It’s a testament to the enduring power of the human spirit to overcome adversity. It’s a story that reminds us that even in the bleakest of circumstances, there is always a place for love and hope. This series is my ode to those timeless themes, wrapped in the thrilling trappings of a genre that continues to captivate and entertain.

This graphic novel / comic book limited series is based on the awards finalist screenplay “Terminal Kill”, written and created by Tony Armer.  The screenplay was a finalist in Screencraft’s 2019 Action Screenplay competition.

Terminal Kill would not have come to fruition if it weren’t for my dear friend Dale Pople. In 2003 Dale had a wild idea about a mysterious Government agent who used the terminally ill to do assassinations. He based this idea on the many conspiracy theories surrounding the Kennedy assassination. I loved the concept and have run with it for over 20 years. From pitching it in LA and around the world as a TV series. To shooting a TV pilot for it in 2011, to numerous conversations with producers, production companies and studios to retooling it as an indie feature film. I’ve worked on Terminal Kill for 20 years. And now it’s finally come to life as a comic book series and graphic novel.

This project is dedicated to the memory of Dale Pople, his loyal friendship, his larger-than-life personality, his care for people, his love of comics, film and TV, and his love of life. This project is also dedicated to his pain, his sorrow, his unresolved emotional trauma and the tragedy of his death. May the themes of love, hope and overcoming adversity this story presents be an enduring honor to Dale. May he Rest in Peace.
