Sony Pictures Animation will expand the upcoming spectral footprint of the Ghostbusters franchise with a new animated television series called Ghostbusters: Ecto Force.

The “younger-skewing” animated show will take place in 2050 and center on the newest generation of Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters: Ecto Force will travel the world as the team fights ghosts using the latest and greatest “cool gear.” Ghostbusters executive producer Ivan Reitman will spearhead the project alongside his production team from Ghost Corps.

Sony Pictures Animation is aiming for an “early 2018” debut for Ghostbusters: Ecto Force.

The studio also announced two animated television shows slated for release in 2017—Hotel Transylvania: The Television Series and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

Hotel Transylvania: The Television Series will focus on Dracula’s daughter Mavis and her friends in their teenage years. It’s expected to air on Disney Channel worldwide. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, the other movie-turned-television show, will expand on the adventures of the films, and air on Cartoon Network in the United States.

Sony Pictures Entertainment is releasing its rebooted Ghostbusters film on July 15. According to actor and writer Dan Aykroyd, the new Ghostbusters film has “more laughs and more scares” than the original. Another original Ghostbuster, Bill Murray, said it’s a hard film to pull off, but that the leading women did just that.
