“Rami Captures Energy of Legendary Queen Singer, Freddie Mercury”| Bohemian Rhapsody Film Review by Violet Ravotti

Rami Malek delivers an energetic, passionate performance onstage “Bohemian Rhapsody,” capturing the nostalgia of that time of the legendary Queen singer, Freddie Mercury with this resonating tribute to Queen. Malek’s eccentric persona and clever, comedic quips are captured throughout the film.  He spontaneously pitches his vocal talent to the band when their lead singer abruptly quits by breaking out into song for them. When they are left surprised by the depth of his vocal cords, he retorts: “More space in my mouth means more range.” This is just the start of a lot of comic relief to come throughout the movie alongside the extraordinary musical numbers.

Mercury’s wholesome character and generous soul are imbued by Rami as he barrels forth with a confident attitude, a superb sense of style and undeniable charisma. Catch it out in the theaters and you’ll feel like a moth attracted to a flame. It is a great movie and worth seeing, to watch the leadership and passion unfold as the chemistry of this dynamic band of embraced misfits embark on a magnanimous, musical journey.

Without a doubt, Freddie Mercury is the best character due to his remarkable, emotional dedication to his musical career and persistence in seeking to find himself with his family conflicts, heartache, sexuality and love for singing. As the movie progresses, Freddie is faced with confronting many obstacles as he strives to make a name for himself.

Freddie’s father points out to him that he should commit to the vision of “good thoughts, good words, good deeds” and it is coupled with stubbornness and curiosity that Freddie stumbles upon the reins of success. I learned that fortune truly does favor the bold and that with enough unifying energy and commitment towards honing one’s gifts – you can truly be the person you’ve always wanted to be. Freddie overcomes many obstacles in his desires to be the performer he was born to be and is proud to show his true nature to his family, fans and close companions.

Mercury is the effervescent, cool energy – the glue that holds the band together and keeps it teeming with an electric energy. The audience is reminded of Freddie’s charming charisma and deadpan humor with lines such as “Roger, there’s only room in this band for one hysterical Queen.” The plot line develops well and deserves an A+. This movie will mesmerize you with scenes that capture the band in its early stages as they encounter growing pains, triumphs and tragedies of stardom. They are the champions that reign on show to us that it takes to be a queen, you must believe in yourself and pursue what you might think is the impossible and give the crowd what they want – be a performer with wholesome dedication, love and passion.
