(Via ComicBook.com) In just a few short months, Netflix is going to bring Hollywood’s next live-action anime adaptation to audiences around the world. Death Note is the next Japanese franchise to get an all new Western makeover thanks to director Adam Wingard and stars like Nat Wolff. With the film coming in just the matter of months, the director has been trying to get fans of the anime excited by the film, including an epic poster that he revealed on Twitter today.
Wingard took to twitter with the new poster showing off on of the main characters from the franchise, the shinigami, or more literally ‘god of death’ Ryuk. The new poster features Ryuk with his famous apple, a nod to the original series, in black in white with the premiere date and Netflix logo.
Netflix’s Death Note has been facing a fair bit of controversy, with screams of white washing. But fans will have wait and see whether Wingard’s vision for Death Noteis a hit or miss. Another failed adaptation would only add to Hollywood’s list of sins, and Death Note fans would be left disappointed. The series is one of Japan’s most popular thriller series because of its seedy supernatural aesthetic. The fan response to Death Note’s first trailer was mixed, so maybe some new footage with revamped VFX shots is what Netflix should look into releasing next.

Death Note will be available to stream on Netflix beginning August 25, 2017.
