MARVEL WANTS TO FOCUS ON ‘NEW’ SPIDER-MAN BADDIES IN HOMECOMING SEQUEL

(Via SyFy.com) Between Sam Raimi’s trilogy and the two new Amazing Spider-Manflicks, we’ve already seen a boatload of Spider villains on the big screen — so Marvel Studios is looking to go a different direction with the MCU.

Kevin Feige has opened up about the studio’s decision to use The Vulture as the big bad in Spider-Man: Homecoming, digging a bit deeper into the rogues gallery for a character who hasn’t popped up in live action. Obviously that was intentional, and Feige said the trend will continue in the upcoming Spider-Man flicks from Marvel and Sony — which means it could be a while until we see a Green Goblin flying around the MCU.

Here’s an excerpt from what he told HeyUGuys:

“What’s fun about this is it’s the first time Spider-Man is in the MCU. And the first time he’s played by an actor who is the age, essentially, Spidey was in the comics for so long. And, as Michael Keaton does with the Vulture, we get to explore villains we haven’t seen before. Spidey has an amazing rogues gallery, so at some point I think it might be interesting to revisit some of the characters we’ve seen in films before, but right now, we think there are a lot of new ones we haven’t played with yet.”

Considering a lot of Spider-Man villains have already been milked in the first two franchises, it’s a wise move for Marvel and Sony to avoid as many of those beats as possible in the new-look Spidey franchise. Fans want something fresh, and there are more than enough rogues to feature without treading on the same old territory.

What do you think? Which deep cut baddies would you like to see next?
