(Via IGN.com) After months of teases, Marvel Comics is finally revealing the titles that will make up their Legacy relaunch this fall. Legacy will include a mix of current, relaunched and entirely new comics, all of which seek to embrace Marvel’s core heroes and ideals while looking ahead to a brighter future for the Marvel Universe.
Marvel is announcing these books in a unique way. Over the course of the day, different websites will be debuting a series of animated images that morph from a classic, iconic Marvel cover into a modernized update, each one spotlighting a different piece of the Legacy puzzle. We’ve put together a round-up of all of these animated covers.
Also note that Marvel isn’t revealing the creative teams for these new books yet. Look for that information to hit sometime between now and SDCC next month.
Marvel seems to have saved the most significant reveals for last. The final batch of covers teases, among other things, the death of the Jane Foster Thor and Sam Wilson returning to the role of the Falcon.
The Mighty Thor: Artist Stephanie Hans pays homage to Jim Starlin’s iconic cover to The Death of Captain Marvel here. Assuming this cover is meant to be taken literally, Jane Foster’s time as Thor may be rapidly coming to a close. Perhaps Marvel Legacy won’t have two Thors co-existing after all.
Ms. Marvel: Artist Jake Wyatt remixes Jack Kirby’s cover to Captain America #109 here, which leads us to wonder if Kamala Khan will be stepping up to fill the void left by a disgraced Steve Rogers.
The Falcon: It appears that Sam Wilson will be hanging up the shield and returning to his old role as the Falcon. This cover sees Elizabeth Torque paying homage to Ron Wilson’s Iron Man #71 and showing off Falcon’s new costume.
Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man: Is Spider-Man going to jail? That’s the implication here, as Paolo Siqueira offers a new take on Al Milgrom’s Captain America #260 cover.
Weapon X: Artist Val Staples updates Barry Windsor Smith’s cover to the original Weapon X mini-series here. Interestingly, while most of these covers feature redcated creator credits, this cover confirms that writer Greg Pak will remain on board Weapon X this fall
