KINGSMAN 2: The Golden Circle Review by Marcus Blake

Matthew Vaughn finally directed a sequel and let’s just say, it was a lot of fun, and worth the wait.  Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle, which just came out this week.  Let me start by saying, if you like the first then you will like the second one.  It’s a great popcorn movie and a great escape from serious movies like Mother. I won’t go as far as to say that it’s the better than the first.  Only three times has a sequel even been better than its predecessor, but this sequel is certainly worth watching.

Set a year after the first one.  Eggsy is a full fledged agent with a beautiful woman at his side.  The villain, this time, played by Julienne Moore is basically a drug dealer with a plan to legalize all drugs.  And once the Kingsmen organization is destroyed by her,  the surviving members are forced to follow the doomsday protocol and head to the US and worth the brother organization called Statesman.

There’s no great drama with this movie,  it’s just a lot of fun and will make you laugh.  I enjoyed it a lot and my favorite part or at least one of them, Channing Tatum didn’t ruin the movie basically he wasn’t in it that long and what dialogue he had ,was funny and to the point.  A big departure from movies that he was just terrible in… G I Joe, being a good example.

Honestly,  the only things I didn’t like about this movie is while destroying Kingsman is a good plot point,  they didn’t have to kill Lancelot when clearly there was good chemistry between her and Eggsy as seen from the last film.  Why have her in the film if you are just going to kill her. And of course (SPOILERS AHEAD), the end of Merlin.  He has always been one of my favorite parts of the films,  but he went out a Warrior especially singing John Denver.   These are really my only complaints about the film.  I enjoyed the movie and was thoroughly entertained.

If you understand that the Kingsman films are just action movies topped with a satire of James Bond with great and witty banter then you understand why it’s a great popcorn movie that will just entertain you.  And why you can have fun at this movie without having to take away anything from it.  However, the unsung hero of the movie is Elton John and I think the producers just let him be Diva in the movie for comic relief in exchange for the rights to his music.  Whatever the case may be,  it worked.  He was hilarious and the price of a movie ticket.

Not all sequels are good,  Some are a waste of time, Kingsman 2 is definitely not.  It’s a great movie because it’s a lot of fun and will entertain you.  With all the crap there is in theaters these days, this movie is worth the price of a movie ticket.  So grab a beer,  buy a ticket, and go see Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle.  You won’t be disappointed!
