James Wan, Lindsey Beer Tackling Mark Millar’s ‘The Magic Order’ Series

Aquaman filmmaker James Wan and geek genre scribe Lindsey Beer are tackling The Magic Order, Netflix’s latest adaptation of a Mark Millar comic book series.Wan will direct the debut episode of the series while Beer, who wrote the adaptation of upcoming film adaptation of Patrick Ness’ science fiction series Chaos Walking, will write and act as showrunner. Both will be executive producing along with Millar.

Order was the first comic Millar, the co-creator of Kick-Ass andWanted, put out after the digital streamer acquired his comics imprint, MillarWorld in 2017.

The multigenerational story follows five families of magicians who are sworn to defend the human world but are now being picked off one by one. Olivier Coipel was the artist.

Michael Clear, the head of production at Wan’s Atomic Monster production company, will executive produce. The company’s Rob Hackett will co-exec produce and oversee.

Beer wrote Netflix’s romantic comedy Sierra Burgess Is a Loser but has since been working steadily in the genre space. She worked on Chaos Walking, the Tom Holland-Daisy Ridley sci-fi YA thriller slated to be released in 2020, and worked on projects ranging from Spider-Man character Silver Sable to a Ninja Turtles reboot to the toy-branded M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Command. She also wrote an adaptation of Millar’s comic Empress.

As a producer, Wan has Swamp Thing, a series based on the DC character, debuting on DC Universe later this month, and the latest installment in The Conjuring Universe, Annabelle Comes Home, later this summer.
