“Haven’t We’ve Seen This Before!” Blood Red Sky Review by Julie Jones

Vampires have been done.  Oh lord, have they been done before! We’ve seen it all, right? Is there anything left to explore or say in a horror film.  It feels like we have covered all the bases and all that’s left is to tell are the same old stories in a better way. But, what happens when there aren’t any ways left? You make cheesy horror films on Netflix,  right! And one’s with Vampires, but at least they are sparkling vampires,  so there’s that!

Blood Red Sky is a film that is about terrorists who take over a plane. What they don’t realize is that one of their passengers has a secret. Spoiler alert (an obvious ones), she’s a vampire. She is traveling with her son and when things get a little hairy she decides that she has to unleash and even the score. Vampire’s on an airplane, well, maybe that hasn’t been done before and who’s to say it can’t work…somebody did make snakes on the plane! Before you start watching, viewer beware, the film is partially in English, but mostly in German and dubbed.

The film goes over a little of her backstory, which is a good thing.  It always helps to get a back story even with vampires so an audience isn’t left to speculate.  One thing I will say about this film us you have seen Snakes on a Plane and Nosferatu, you pretty much get the gist of the story.  Also, like the films, I mentioned, you will get pretty bored with this movie pretty fast. There isn’t really anything new to the story, except that this vampire can control herself with an injection. If only it were that simple when it comes to vampires.  The rest is typical vampire storyline fodder.

There isn’t really anything worth mentioning about this movie. The acting isn’t great, but works to a point when it comes to a B vampire film.  And neither is the aesthetic, direction, or cinematography really that good. What can you really do on a plane that we haven’t seen before? You can only make Con Air so many times.  The story was pretty bland and lackluster. There weren’t any interesting characters that will stand out and make you remember this film.  Really, this film is worth skipping. The trailer is about as good as it gets and even that is too long. On a scale of one to ten I give this film a five. Don’t waste your time on it, but if you have to, make sure that you have something alcoholic on deck and something to cruise on your phone.
