“Fast X” Review by Marcus Blake

Fast X is the most over the top action movie with cars that’s ever been made, yeah, I said it. In each Fast and the Furious movie, they try and find a way to outdo themselves, leaving many of us to wonder if they’re just trying to out “Mission Impossible” the Mission Impossible movies. But is this movie as bad as I previously predicted it to be, honestly, no! It’s a fun movie, not a great movie, but fun. However, there’s only one person that makes this movie worth watching and that is Jason Momoa as the villain, Dante. He plays the son of Reyes, who was killed in the fifth movie, so the entire story is about revenge for killing his dad and taking down his father’s drug empire. Yes, it’s a predictable storyline, but Jason Momoa is great. He is flamboyant, witty, and keeps you laughing even though he’s a Madman. He will entertain you to the very end.

The basic story of this film is all our beloved characters being caught in Dante’s Revenge trap. He wants to make Dom and the rest of the gang pay for what they did, especially when it comes to Dom’s son. And he’s pretty much predicted every move they would make so they’re constantly on the run and can’t seem to stay ahead of the bad guys. Now, this movie is serving as the first part of a two-part movie that will end the franchise, keep that in mind when you get to the end.

The story is very predictable, and the action is so over the top that you can’t believe anybody would survive. But all the action scenes and the high-octane driving will keep you entertained to the very end, despite the very big suspension of disbelief you must have to get through the movie.  One of the strongest points of this film besides Jason Momoa is the rest of the cast.   The Fast and the Furious movies have always had a really good cast, especially with adding villains who are not going to become allies like Charlize Theron and Jason Statham. John Cena is back playing Dom’s brother and he plays a great uncle saving “Little B” from the bad guys.

No matter how entertaining this latest Fast and the Furious movie may be, it’s still a mind-numbing movie with unbelievable stunts that will still make you question why these movies are being made in the first place. I’m glad the movie is coming to an end, and you get the sense that this is the first part of a two-part story, much like Avengers Infinity War to Avengers Endgame. The story feels unfinished and would be a much better story if we got to see both movies back-to-back, but that is to be expected when you’re essentially making a two-part movie to end the franchise. The biggest weakness of this movie and like any other movie in the franchise is we’ve seen it all before. The only surprise is Jason Momoa as the villain. Not that we should be surprised that he can play a great villain, but that you would probably have the best villain the “Fast Gang” has ever faced. He’s the only reason to keep watching this movie. Fast X is not a great movie. There are some humorous moments and fun action scenes, but these movies have gotten so far beyond what’s believable compared to the first film in the series that it just borders on ridiculousness at this point. But I like most people am curious to see how it all ends, probably with a barbecue in the backyard and Dom talking about how he doesn’t have friends, he has family with a few more former villains added to the fold. It’s a fun movie to see in the theater,  but don’t overpay for a ticket or just wait until its FREE on a streaming service.
