Castle and the Dangers of Social Media by Allison Costa

I realize that it’s completely ironic that I’m blogging about an episode that was all about the dangers of social media, and yet here we are 😉

Castle was interesting this week and seemed to pull a page from the new series “Stalker’s” notebook as it profiled a serial killer who stalked his victims and then killed them in response to a cyber-bullying incident that happened when he was in high school.  As the events escalate, Adam Lane, the killer, escalates his crimes in order to become a Legacy on the internet.  Using a platform called Snappamatic, which obviously was a jab at InstaGram and Twitter, he was able to post pictures of crime scenes and egg on the police.  It was an interesting episode and one of the better ones that Castle has had recently.

However, he is my question to you—how do you feel about the dangers of social media?  Do the positives and benefits of the online community outweigh all of the dangers and invasions of privacy? And what’s being shown in more and more drama on television is the rise of technology, the internet and social media sites in murders, rapes, and crimes in general.  Are writers embellishing the statistics or are we as a population seemingly unaware of the danger?  Food for thought.

Stayed tuned for more episode reviews this week and tune into Castle next week!
