The Boss Baby Review By Allison Costa

Well if you show up at the movie theater today to see Boss Baby and expect to have a similar experience like that of Moana, or even Sing…..you will be disappointed.  BUT.. if you are looking for a quick escape to entertain kids for a couple of hours then it will surely fit the bill.

Boss Baby is a funny look into the role of siblings and how they change our lives.  And although the story is mainly in the protagonists’ head (although the movie makes it appear as though it is really happening), we get to see his memories play out very differently and involve “Baby Corps” and the fight between babies and puppies for all of the love in the world.  Although they start out as enemies, both Templeton and his “boss” baby brother have to work together to rid the world of the puppy threat and thus get Boss baby promoted and sent back home and Templeton back as a happy only child.

There are some funny moments and clever one-liners, but the movie is similar in many ways to “Storks” (that came out last fall), and I think it could easily wait to be seen as a rental.  I laughed a bit, and my kids enjoyed it, but it was definitely not a movie experience like Moana or Sing.

Alec Baldwin does do a great job as the voice of Boss Baby, and there are some touching scenes in the conclusion–I won’t all-out spoil it for you, but you can probably guess what happens after Boss Baby leaves.  It is a poignant look at how siblings relate to each other, and what it means to be a family.  A good family night movie to be seen at home with kids ages 10 and under.  But as far as a big screen premiere?  Probably okay to go ahead skip it and head to Beauty and the Beast instead.
