Han Solo Reportedly Has a ‘Gigantic Role’ in Star Wars: Episode VII: from IGN.com

An official casting announcement on Star Wars: Episode VII should be coming any day now (May the Fourth perhaps?), and with that anticipation has come a flurry of rumors and reports about who might be in the film.

Deadline claims that Harrison Ford‘s Han Solo “has a gigantic role in the first of the next three films.” Ford, Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) are all expected to reprise their iconic roles for the new trilogy, and rumors have swirled that Peter Mayhew’s Chewbacca and Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian will also be back. Series mainstays C-3P0 and R2-D2 will also be in it.

But what of new characters and cast members? We know Adam Driver’s on board to play a villain, and now Deadline adds that Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, Sucker Punch) is up for a key role. The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit tweeting that Isaac had previously been in negotiations but dropped out due to a scheduling conflict with a theater commitment. It’s possible that conflict’s been resolved.

Also said to have won a role is the previously reported contender John Boyega (Attack the Block), who Kit mentions has now dropped out of starring in the Jesse Owens biopicRace.

As Deadline points out, director J.J. Abrams has “a big table read tomorrow with the cast in London, and so he’s finally going to be forced to fess up shortly.”
