It’s been rumoured for a while now, but over the weekend director Richard Donner confirmed that a sequel to his ’80s fantasy adventure The Goonies is happening. Or at least, he wants it to happen.
“We’re doing a sequel,” Donner told TMZ as he signed autographs.
When asked if any of the old cast would return, Donner replied “hopefully all of ’em.”
Sean Astin, who played Mikey in the movie, told us last year in no uncertain terms that a sequel “will happen. I’m 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it.”
The Goonies is now 29 years old, and remains one of the most well-loved family films of the ’80s. Because Goonies never say die.
