George Clooney and Brad Pitt are back together again, but sadly it’s not an Ocean’s movie. Although, that’s okay because their new film on Apple + is called Wolfs. A star as fixers who are both called to the same crime scene even though they think they would be working alone. Their lone wolfs for that’s how their business works, but now they’re forced to work together when it comes to getting rid of a dead body, stolen drugs, and some run-ins with the mob. Of course this is going to make for a fun movie and George Clooney and Brad Pitt do not disappoint. They are definitely at their best when they are playing off one another much like Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. This movie definitely has the feel of a good buddy cop movie and in a lot of ways, feels like Tango and Cash, but with criminals. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie a lot more than I thought I would. And while there’s nothing really unique about it, the best parts of the film are George Clooney and Brad Pitt playing off one another. I’ve always said that the perfect cast can make an average movie into a good movie. If you have the right cast you can always make a movie better than what it should have been.
George Clooney and Brad Pitt certainly make this movie worth watching. You’ve got two great actors who have a lot of great on-screen chemistry. It definitely shows on this film. But the performance is from the other actors also help make this movie better than what it could have been. Austin Abrams who plays the young kid who they think ODs but is really still alive almost steals every scene he’s in. He plays a great inexperienced guy to the two season pros. His performance may not win him an Academy award, but you certainly want to see him more and more in the film. One of the best parts of the film is the overall mystery of how these two fixers were put on the same job while trying to figure out who is setting who up. The movie feels like a great dark noir criminal thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way to the end. It has the right amount of violence perfectly balanced with great comedy. But make no mistake, this movie would not have been as good without George Clooney and Brad Pitt. They’re the perfect team and the story will leave you wanting more adventures from these two characters.
There’s not a lot to complain about. It’s a fun movie, but it’s not a complex thriller and there’s a lot that doesn’t seem to get explained and overshadowed by the violence as the two main characters are just trying to make it through the night. If you’re like me it makes you wonder if this kind of story would not have been better told as a limited series on a streaming channel where you can dive into all the complexities In the story with its interesting characters thriving in the underworld. But then again I don’t know if this film needed to be any darker. As I said before it has the feel of a great buddy cop movie but with criminals. Jon Watts who wrote and directed this movie knows what kind of film it should be and kept it simple. It works, but it does leave you with a lot of unanswered questions. And of course you’ll always want to know more about the characters.
There’s a great line by Austin Abrams character when he asked the both of them how does one get into that kind of business. That immediately made me want to know more of their backstory, but all of this is minor criticisms because the simplicity of the story is about surviving the night and the betrayal that is easily foreshadowed at the beginning of the movie. It’s easy to connect with the characters and root for them even though they’re basically criminals and through George Clooney and Brad’s pit’s performance, it will leave you wanting more. There’s definitely room for a sequel or perhaps a trilogy like the Ocean’s movies. Maybe we won’t get it and the film does and on the perfect note. Wolfs is definitely worth watching on Apple Plus and the two leads do not disappoint! Overall it’s just a really fun movie with two great actors who can play off each other well and will keep you entertained and it doesn’t need to be anything else. I highly recommend watching this film if you have Apple Plus, it’s worth the two hours!
