Can you believe it’s been 25 years? Warner Bros. is marking the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (aka Philosopher’s Stone) with a global theatrical re-release of the original film as part of a year-long celebration across all divisions of the media company.
Full details are still under wraps, but we do know it will include a specially designed 25th Anniversary logo evoking the silvery glow of the Patronus, which will be featured across new and existing product lines, along with special edition products, retail promotions and digital and and in-person activations aligned with key franchise moments, including Butterbeer Season (March–May), Harry Potter’s Birthday (July), Back to Hogwarts (August–September), and Christmas in the wizarding world.
Released on Nov. 16, 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone kicked off one of the most successful franchises in history, with over 600 million books sold in more than 85 languages, $7.7 billion in global box office revenue across eight Harry Potter films and three Fantastic Beasts titles, the stage-play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, mobile and video games and worldwide themed-lands.
Now 15 years after the final chapter, Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the studio is returning to Hogwarts with the upcoming Harry Potter TV series, which will revisit author J.K. Rowling’s popular books, slated for premiere in 2027 on HBO Max.
