The beloved stories from “The Last Wish” brought to new life in comics form!
Dark Horse and CD PROJEKT RED continue the comics adaptations of writer Andrzej Sapkowski’s acclaimed short story collection, The Last Wish, with the fifth such graphic novel to date, adapting the story The Witcher, aptly titled Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher: The Witcher. This tale is by Sapkowski (original story), Aleksandra Zielinska (script adaptation), with art by Michael Dowling, colors by Luis NCT, letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and cover art by Kai Carpenter. Fans will soon be able to secure all five books wherever comics and books are sold when Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher: The Witcher arrives in December 2025.
“Andrzej Sapkowski’s work was my favorite read growing up and played a formative role in shaping my literary path,” says Zielinska. “Adapting one of his stories into a comic is not only a great honor, but also the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Especially because this particular piece – The Witcher’s first iconic short story – marks the beginning of an extraordinary saga that has since flourished across novels, games, and other media. Being a small part of that legacy means the world to me.”
In Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher: The Witcher:
Geralt pursues a proclamation from a king of a bloodthirsty monster plaguing his palace. A hefty reward is offered to cure the beast, but not to kill it, for the king holds a secret—what lies beneath the palace is beyond the spawn of evil. Charlatans and amateurs have tried and failed to answer the region’s plight. Now, Geralt sets out to claim the bounty—by decree of the king or by the pleas of those who wish the creature dead.
“This story taps into the underlying horror that I feel is so important to The Witcher – the Gothic, body-horror, rising sense of dread and visceral shocks – a world I really enjoy creating visually,” said Dowling.
