“Deadpool & Wolverine” Review by Marcus Blake

If Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool truly is Marvel Jesus it’s because he’s made the best Marvel movie since Endgame while restoring our faith in the Marvel Universe and giving fans exactly what we want.  Then at the same time having the balls to make fun of Disney for putting out shitty content the last 5 years! Only Marvel Jesus can get away with that!  Is Deadpool  & Wolverine worth the hype… Absolutely! There’s no debate that the last 5 years since Avengers: Endgame has been dismal for the Marvel Universe. The movies haven’t been that good or their average at best. The individual streaming content on Disney + hasn’t really been that good so it’s very refreshing to finally get a movie That’s just as good as the first Avengers movie. But the Deadpool movies never really disappoint! They’re always entertaining, especially when breaking the fourth wall. This movie exceeds all expectations and gives the fans what we’ve always wanted, a proper adventure with Wolverine and Deadpool because when they tried to do it in the Wolverine origins movie, it was shit! So, like a Windows operating system that has to fix the previous operating system, this film easily fixes all the mistakes made with Wolverines: Origins while at the same time giving us a multiverse movie that doesn’t seem convoluted or confusing. The multiverse is just not that exciting anymore and if this were the last story to ever deal with the TVA and the multiverse, this is the perfect way to end that storyline.

What works in this movie! Pretty much everything, right down to all the glorious cameos from past Marvel characters which we will not spoil… there are a lot of great cameos That make this movie a lot of fun and in some ways give these characters a proper send-off. But that’s all I’m going to say! Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman make this movie what it is! Although,  Logan was a perfect ending to the Wolverine’s story and one can argue that after that movie, there was no need to bring him back, Deadpool did it perfectly. I’m sure this is the last time we will ever see Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and it still gives him a proper send-off, but to have him back and in the yellow suit, you can’t give fans a better version of Wolverine.  Ryan Reynolds is always good! This is easily his best role and probably his best performance as Deadpool. Like I said, he never disappoints. Ryan Reynolds is going to make you laugh. Having him and Hugh Jackman makes for the perfect Marvel buddy cop movie. The film is 2 hours long and doesn’t feel long at all. The pacing is great, and the action scenes are incredible. And the villain is fantastic! Plus, having Reynolds play two versions of Deadpool makes the film even better. There’s a lot that I really can’t write about this movie without getting into spoilers so it’ll probably be a short review, but I’m here to tell you that this is a movie worth seeing in the theater. It is very much worth the price of a movie ticket.  It’s probably the first Marvel movie you will want to see more than once in theater, well, at least five because most of us saw Endgame at least twice in the theater. If Marvel Studios is finally getting back on track, and you know they’re trying to do that by bringing the Russo Brothers back and limiting the amount of movies they come out with every year then Deadpool and Wolverine is the best way to do it. It’s like hitting a home run on the first pitch of a game! We can’t say for sure if Marvel studios will ever make anything as good as they did with all the movies leading up to the Infinity War films, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.

Now there isn’t much to gripe about. The movie wasn’t too short or too long, and that’s the way movies should be. There certainly are a few lulls in the movie, but the action picks right back up and won’t leave you bored. We can’t say that for every Marvel movie, but this may just seem like minor nitpicking. My biggest complaint is not enough of Morena Baccarin. I miss her having a more prominent role in the Deadpool movies because she is the perfect foil for Wade Wilson and the perfect Ying to Deadpool’s Yang. Yes, I understand this is about Deadpool and Wolverine, but it would have been nice to see her character a little bit more. But to be honest most of the characters took a back seat to Deadpool and Wolverine, after all, it is their movie.

So, this is more or less minor nitpicking. But as much as she is missed in this movie, Emma Corrin playing Cassandra Nova more than makes up for it. She is fantastic and would love to see more of her character. But any criticisms I have of this film are minor compared to how awesome it is This is exactly the kind of Marvel movie we need. One that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but can easily get the Marvel Universe back on track. And I’ll just go ahead and say it, Ryan Reynolds is one of the best entertainers in the world and he should definitely win an award for playing Deadpool because there’s nobody else who could do it. He absolutely shines in this movie as well as Hugh Jackman coming back as the Wolverine. This film is just pure fun. It’s the perfect summer blockbuster! And more importantly, it does not disappoint from beginning to end. Yes, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool may just be Marvel Jesus, and Lord knows, we need someone to help save the Marvel Universe. It looks like Deadpool and Wolverine just dead. I am excited for the Marvel Universe for the first time in 5 years. And you know what, f@#$ it, it’s time to make Deadpool an Avenger. He’s probably the only one who can make the next Avenger movie good or at least on par with the Infinity War movies. Deadpool and Wolverine is damn near perfect… I easily give it a 9!
