Season 4 of The Lincoln Lawyer is the best one yet!!! I couldn’t stop watching and even stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it. This has been one of my favorite shows on Netflix and like I’ve mentioned in previous reviews, nothing against the Matthew McConaughey movie, but the show is so much better than the movie especially with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo playing Mickey Haller. He’s actually a better fit for the character considering Mickey is half Hispanic, but his magnetism with the character is so much better in a lot of ways than what Matthew McConaughey did. This season picks right up after the last one where Mickey is arrested for murder. It’s all about having to prove his innocence while long list of enemies including an assistant district attorney who would love nothing but to see him spend the rest of his life in prison. Every season has been great, but everybody shines in season 4 and it’s one of the best courtroom performances throughout the entire series. This season is based off Michael Conley’s book, The Law of Innocence.
There’s always a great investigation element to each season, but this one was even better and dealt with more conspiracies. While Mickey is the primary character that gets to shine in every season, what I really particularly liked is that we got to see more of Neve Campbell who plays his first wife Maggie McPherson. She gets added to the defense team to help save Mickey and she is brilliant. Unfortunately, she’s always been more of a background character in previous seasons, but this time she certainly holds around with Mickey. Also makes the season great how much it’s connected to previous seasons are we certainly get to see a long list of enemies come out of the shadows that try to put Mickey down. It’s as tough as case and at the same time, his other former wife Lorna who can now practice law is taking on other cases to save the firm. So we get to see multiple cases having it at the same time while primarily focusing on Mickey’s defense. Of course, he’s great in the courtroom, but I also have to admit that Neve Campbell in some ways overshadows Manuel’s performance. You almost wish that they would be lawyers and be like a McMillan and Wife team that solves crimes and helps people stay out of jail. But it is the courtroom performances that really take the center stage in this season and as good as they have been in previous seasons, they dial it up to 10 with this one.
I don’t have any complaints about season 4. Not only is the Law of Innocence one of the best books in the Lincoln Lawyer series, but it’s the perfect book to base season 4 on. I’m doing my best to refrain from spoilers because if you’re a fan of this show, you’re going to love this season. But if there is one major complaint it’s the use of unnecessary characters Like Maggie’s new boyfriend Jason who is played by Jason O’Mara. He’s a great actor, but not given much to do except being unlikable character in season 4. Other than that, the pacing is great, each episode keeps you on the edge of your seat, and you won’t be able to stop watching until the very end. Plus like every season, there’s a fun surprise that sets up the next season. And yes, season 5 has already been renewed. The prison scenes are great And this season is probably the most intense with good reason. Constance Zimmer shines as the assistant district attorney Dana Berg…you love to hate her throughout the entire season, but that’s just the mark of a great actress. I guarantee you won’t be able to stop watching until the last episode. Like I said, this is the best season of The Lincoln Lawyer and I stand by that!
