We often enjoy music in movies and it’s something that really sets the mood in a scene. But, it isn’t often that is something that translates outside that medium. We might find it ignites something in us and maybe we can’t stop listen to it for a while, but after that moment passes it’s almost like it never happened. We move on, something else takes up that brain space and it relegates to “what’s the name of that song, by that artist…the one from that movie?” But, what does all that mean for the artist?

Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus is a look at how bad that can go. An introspective that dives into how often she has lent to films we love, we get to see the artist and hear from her about how it played out for her. We see moments she contributed to in films that won Oscars, moments we all love and talk about. But, nobody ever remembers her name. Now, we get to hear about it from her. Not only what those days were like and how she felt, but where she is now.

I thought this doc was great and had a lot of information. It’s definitely worth watching and a good time for all. I think it was missing a little something, but nothing that hinders the production or viewing. Overall, I would give it a 7 just because I feel like there is more we should know about her. You could almost do documentary series about Q Lazzarus, but doesn’t take away from the two hour film. It’s a good watch and worth the time, just don’t walk in with high expectations. Watch it for what it is: a view from the other side and an informative perspective we all need to hear especially the next time you hear the song, “Goodbye Horses.
