Weekly Round-UP on Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, and Forever – “Thank Goodness for Fall!” by Allison Costa

Hallelujah!  Fall TV with all of its new premieres and shows is finally back!  Summer felt slow and semi-pathetic for this blogger.  With the exception of the “24” re-boot, and “Covert Affairs”, for me there was nothing very exciting to watch this past summer, but fall has hit us with a vengeance!

Shows have slowly been coming back the last few weeks and last week started off with a bang as the series premiere of “Flash” aired, along with the season premiere of “Arrow”.

Let’s start with “Arrow”.  I thought the season premiere was fabulous.  For me, It didn’t lack in any way and I was shocked by the decision to kill off Sara at the end of the episode.  I, for one, did not see that coming.  From the writer’s stand-point, and to further the story-line it completely makes sense and provides a good dramatic background and dark turn for the season to start off with—especially after the finale last year where Slade was sent to his own private prison.  There needed to be a new villain and crusade this season and by introducing an un-known killer and enemy right from the start the audience is captivated.  This week’s episode where they say good-bye to Sara as a team was very sad, but also moving and added a depth to the characters showing how their relationships have grown and changed.  Should be interesting to see what they decide to do with Thea now that she is apparently training to be more like her father—not sure I see her as a badass like Sara was, but her character needed some more development.  I am still undecided about whether the new owner of McQueen industries will go on to be an ally or an enemy, but think that either way he will add to the drama as an obvious competitor for the affections of Felicity.  Should be a great season!

As for the “Flash”—so far, I am liking this series as well.  It is not nearly as dark “Arrow”, but that’s okay.  It reminds me a lot of “Smallville” with the “meta-humans” affected by the particle explosion being similar to those affected by the different kinds of kryptonite.  I mean so far the villains have been one guy that can control the weather and another that can clone himself—almost positive that those same powers manifested themselves in a few villains back on “Smallville” 😉  Nevertheless, it is still quite good and the hooks of the mystery killer of Barry’s mom, as well as what the owner of S.T.A.R. industries is really up to, keeps us guessing and provides a bit of intrigue.  So far I am giving it…

“Forever” is one new show I am loving, and “Person of Interest” has peaked my interest so far this season as well. Some other honorable mentions for me are “Stalker”and “Bones”, and for all of the other ladies needing a slight drama fix and some eye-candy I am still tuning into “Vampire Diaries” and “Reign”.  The premiere of “Constantine” looks to be fantastic and a few other late bloomers, but “Gotham” has already started to drag for me.  If you are bored and caught up on everything else, in my opinion you can watch this one, but it isn’t super “catching for me right now.

Stay tuned for further updates and editorials and lets us know what you think is must see T.V. this fall!

I will be posting more reviews this week but in quick summary these are the shows I would suggest to be watching now if you are short on time:

Arrow

Flash

Forever

Person of Interest

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

Castle
