Series Premiere of “Forever” by Allison Costa

forever

The teaser for this show looked clever, so I was curious to see if the premiere lived up to its high acclaim. And ….it did!  I thought the series premiere was excellent and am excited to see what tonight’s show offers.  Dr. Henry Morgan is an interesting character, played by Ioan Gruffudd who is best known for his roll as Mr. Fantastic in the Fantastic Four series and was most recently seen on television in the show “Ringer” with Sarah Michelle Gellar that only lasted for one season.  I have always enjoyed him as an actor and think that he is brilliantly cast in this role.  In fact, one of the things that makes this series look so promising is the clever choices in casting.

For those unfamiliar with this series, Dr. Henry Morgan’s character cannot stay permanently dead.  He can be killed but he is always re-born in water and although he feels the pain of each different kind of death he does not stay dead.  He does not know why he is this way, nor does the audience, only that over his 200 years of living he has become very observant and well-educated and out of curiosity a student of death.  In many ways his character reminded me a little of Sherlock Holmes as did the fact that the first episode reveals an unknown character that knows his secret and haunts him in an almost Moriarty-like fashion.  We do not yet know if this new character is friend or foe and his identity has not been revealed.  The premiere was engaging enough to capture my attention and also left enough hints as to questions unknown that I hope to see revealed in the future.  With so many new shows this season, only time will tell if this one is a winner but so far I would say it is off to a good start.
