With just under two months to go until the world gets a look at Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Cap himself, Chris Evans, says he’d like to see his character come down on the wrong side of things for a change.

Evans says he wants Captain America to “Make a mistake. He’s so concerned with being right. Even the struggle in [Winter Soldier], it’s about how to be right. His biggest struggle is just being the best he can be, and if he doesn’t achieve that, he really beats himself up. His moral compass is so sound, you rarely see him make a mistake. It’s everyone around him dropping the ball. So it would be nice to see a little bit of human error or a human flaw, just immaturity or foolishness, an ego, something.”

Evans gave that quote in an interview with SFX Magazine but, as Comicbookmovie.compoints out, it’s likely he wasn’t commenting on what is or isn’t included in the script of Avengers 2, which won’t begin shooting until next month. When we spoke to him on the set of Winter Soldier, Evans talked about his protectiveness of the role and his willingness to make suggestions about which direction the character should go in.

“I don’t want to make it sound like it’s gone to my head or anything, you just care a little bit more about making sure this is good quality stuff because we’re going to run the contract. There’s no way I’m not going to be doing it — We’re going to do Avengers 2. Probably going to do Avengers 3. These things will happen so you want to make sure it’s pointed in the right direction. You don’t want to step on toes, but there’s room to be vocal and that’s the best thing about Marvel. You can be stuck in a contract at a much worse place, a lot worse places. Marvel’s very collaborative. You feel the love from Marvel. You do.”

If that’s true, maybe we’ll get to see Captain America make the wrong call in Avengers 2 or 3. Just as long as he doesn’t grow a five o’clock shadow and start trashing bars in costume.
